Research in this lab has emerged from a desire to improve morbidity and mortality in patients with drug-resistant focal epilepsy, and specifically to improve seizure and cognitive outcomes in patients undergoing surgical interventions. Using the resources available at the NIH Clinical Center, the lab’s noninvasive epilepsy imaging protocol provides a unique standardized multimodal dataset from patients undergoing evaluation for epilepsy surgery at the NIH Clinical Center, including neuropsychological evaluations, structural and functional neuroimaging, magnetoencephalography (MEG) and non-invasive and invasive electroencephalography (EEG) recordings.  We seek to develop novel biomarkers to localize and understand the relationship between seizure foci and networks.  The NIH Clinical Center also provides unique opportunities to carry out collaborative work in this area with other intramural and extramural investigators.
