Dr. Smith has been the head of the Clinical Neuro-HIV research program since 2014 when he joined the NIH. Prior, he was an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where he also completed his fellowship training in the division of Neuroimmunology and Neurological Infections.
Dr. Smith has a specialized research interest the neurologic complications of infectious diseases including HIV. He also sees patients at the Clinical Center with undiagnosed and rare neuroinflammatory and neuroinfectious diseases.
