Training/Career Development Focus: NINDS Chalk Talk Workshop led by Speaking Coach Scott Morgan

Wednesday, October 11, 2023 | 3:00 - 4:00 PM

Chalk Talks are an increasingly important component of science communication.  Once reserved for academic interviews, they are now common in industry and for tenure-track positions, such as the NIH Earl Stadtman Investigators program.  This workshop will be led by Public Speaking Coach Scott Morgan, and it will focus on the components that make an effective chalk talk and provide hints on what to practice.

Topics include:

  1. Connection to job talks
  2. Relevance to faculty
  3. What to draw on the white/blackboard
  4. Levels of detail
  5. Question anticipation
  6. Tone and delivery
