Training/Career Development Focus: Industry Careers Workshop on Preparing for the Job Market

Tuesday, August 16, 2022 | 1:00 - 2:00 PM

The NINDS Office of Research Training and Career Development will offer a workshop aimed to help you prepare for the competitive job market.

Postdocs, graduate students, and staff scientists are encouraged to attend—even if you are unsure of your career goals, it can be a great learning experience to prepare yourself for what’s to come if you are interested in an industry career!

Led by Lauren Celano, CEO of Propel Careers, this workshop will provide advice for how to identify and develop skills during graduate and postdoctoral training and how to highlight these skills in a resume, cover letter, or interview so that organizations know you are competitive for industry positions.  It will focus on skills needed for various career paths, including research roles and non-research positions such as consulting, business development, writing, outreach, and clinical research. This workshop will provide advice for how to develop many of these skills while performing your research while also providing examples for how to build skills outside of the lab (if needed).  It will also include discussions on the soft skills that industry roles are looking for – including teamwork, collaboration, leadership, and communication as well as specific hard skills for certain roles and how to highlight these experiences to the hiring team.

All training events sponsored by the Office of Research Training and Career Development (RTCD) are only offered to current NINDS fellow.  If you are interested in registering for the event or have any questions, please email the RTCD team at dirtraining@ninds.nih.gov.
