Raymond L. Fields

Mr. Fields received a B.S. degree in Biochemistry and Applied Molecular Biology in 1987 from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. He joined the Laboratory of Cellular Development and Oncology Branch, Peptide and Immunochemistry Section under Dr. Frank Robey in the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) following graduation and was involved with peptide synthesis and peptide protein conjugation methods. In 1989, Mr. Fields joined the Laboratory of Microbial Ecology in the NIDCR under Dr. Stephen Leppla studying the protein components of Anthrax toxin. In 1993 Mr. Fields moved to the National Biological Service, Alaska Science Center into the Laboratory of Molecular Ecology under Dr. Kim Scribner developing molecular markers for population genetics studies of salmon and waterfowl. In 1996 Mr. Fields returned to the NIH into the Laboratory Neurochemistry in the NINDS under Dr. Harold Gainer. While in the Laboratory of Neurochemistry Mr. Fields learned the techniques of virus production and viral transduction. These techniques were applied to the study of oxytocin and vasopressin gene regulation. In 2013 Mr. Fields started the Viral Production Core Facility in the NINDS.
