Dr. Safavi is an Assistant Clinical Investigator with NIAID and an adjunct investigator with the NINDS. Dr. Safavi received her medical degree from Tehran University of Medical Science and Health Services (TUMS) in Tehran, Iran, and her Ph.D. in neural and behavioral sciences from the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. She was a postdoc research fellow in immunology in the Department of Neurology at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. Her preliminary year of an internal medicine residency was spent at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC) in Baltimore, and her neurology residency was completed at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. 

 

Dr. Safavi’s ongoing project at NINDS is research into the role of immune-mediated gene defects in neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative diseases. Among other professional organizations, she is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Immunological Association, the International Society of Neuroimmunology, and the American Neurological Association.
