Clinical Unit

The purpose of the Clinical Neurosurgery Unit is to extend the key mission objectives of the  NINDS to reduce the burden of neurological diseases and to train exceptional physician-scientists. The Unit provides clinical care for all neurosurgical patients being treated at the NIH Clinical Center via research protocols within NINDS and as a high-level referral and consult service for patients in other protocols. The Clinical Neurosurgery Unit provides infrastructure and personnel that supports scientifically and ethically sound research that increases knowledge about the pathophysiology and treatment of nervous system disease. This knowledge is used to improve the neurosurgical care of patients afflicted by these diseases.
